These are my white horses

A figure of me

Although they came from the sea

They live and breathe just like you and me

Your horses will know them from far far away

They will talk about them each and every day

Their hooves on the sea bed

Led me to them

Their cries as they died down once again

So let me join you

Oh please, Oh please

As your love of horses led you to me.

Thank you very much to Yessica Quinton who sent this lovely poem to us. It is about our beloved adoption horse Victor who sadly passed away in September. He was a magnificent Shire horse and is terribly missed by everyone at Redwings.

Victor was a friendly giant,
He stood in the field looking gigantic,
He was black and white - what a great sight!
People looked up and stared
But Victor did not care
Because in the end they knew that he was kind and gentle,
He retired in pride and cantered through the field all of his time,
Playing and rolling until he died,
But he died in piece and happiness,
And he will always be my favourite Shire of all time
I remember him with love
Beautiful Victor you are lovely
And nobody shall ever forget you
Ever ...

Here is a lovely story written by Lilly Pawsey! Thanks very much Lilly!

One snowy Winter's day, little Peter was huddling up beside his mum when a snow storm hit. Peter and his mum got separated. When the snow storm had passed Peter searched and searched but he couldn't find his mum anywhere. He whinnied and neighed but his mum was nowhere to be seen. So Peter wandered lost in the snow for many days. Then one day he found a herd of horses - he asked every horse but he didn't recognise any of them. But when he asked the last horse, who was named Mandy, she said "I will help you find your mother". So Mandy and Peter set out to find Peter's mother.

A year passed but they still couldn't find Peter's mother. But one day Peter fell ill so Mandy made a little cave for Peter, and Mandy said "you stay here and I will go and get help". So Mandy cantered off into the dark.

Two weeks passed but Mandy did not come back until Peter heard hoof beats. Then suddenly out of the mist came Mandy and she had brought a vet with her and his mother! "Mother?" whimpered Peter.

Three hours later Peter was tucked up beside his mum in lovely warm straw while eating some lovely warm Bran mash. Then after that Peter and his mum snuggled down beside each other and slept till the morning.

Young Redwings Story Competition

In the last edition of the Young Redwings magazine, we held an extra special Story Competition for you lot to enter! We had loads of fantastic entries, and it was so difficult to pick a winner! But here goes...

The winner is... Emily, age 10, from Burton Latimer in Northamptonshire! Emily wrote a dazzling story all about the adoption pony Dylan and how he became a 'Hero of a Horse'...

"I can’t believe this is all happening! It can’t be true! Everything was fine yesterday when I left the riding school. Felicity, Will and Wensley were fed and in their stables, and Dylan was out in the field. I just don’t see how it went so wrong.

I guess you’re wondering what I’m talking about? Well, let me explain…"

Please click here to read the rest of Emily's excellent story...

It was an absolute pleasure reading all of the stories entered into the competition. Some of the other entrants who we think deserve an extra special mention are:

Shannon, from St Lawrence, Jersey, age 9. Shannon chose to write a wonderful story about the adoption pony Boo, and how he was rescued.

Annie, from Daventry, Northamptonshire, age 13. Annie wrote a very sweet story about the adoption horse Finnegan, and a young girl named Mel.

Ellie, from Braintree, Essex, age 9. Ellie wrote a very imaginative story about Boo, the adoption pony, and his fantastical multi-coloured coat!

Alice, from Brundall, Norfolk, age 6. Alice wrote a lovely story about when she went to Darcey’s birthday party and how it was a very special day.
