Caption Competition
The Autumn edition of the Young Redwings magazine will be landing on your doorsteps very soon. Inside, you can find details of our latest competition! To your right there is a photograph of two lovely Shetland ponies named Tinkerbell (the palomino) and Belle (the bay). All you have to do is think up a caption to go with the picture.
If you think you’ve come up with a caption, you can email your entry (along with your name and address) to young@redwings.co.uk, or you can post it to Young Redwings Editor, Redwings Horse Sanctuary, Norwich Road, Hapton, NR15 1SP.
Don’t worry if you can’t see this picture very well. There will be larger sized photograph in the next magazine. The lucky winner will receive a year’s free online adoption as well as some fab Saddle Club goodies!
Gizzy Wizzy Let’s Get Busy!
Since the beginning of the year we have had 18 foals born! They are all very special creatures, but none of them have been as tiny as Gizmo!
Little Gizmo is a miniature Shetland foal and was born on 2nd August. Her Mum is named Nooky and was rescued in June after she was found in a very poorly state. Nooky was suffering with conjunctivitis, which is an eye infection, and had hypothermia, so she was very cold and shivering. She also has an overshot jaw - her bottom teeth stick out further than her top teeth, so she has to have regular dental work. When we found her, her bottom teeth were very overgrown. She was also heavily in foal and gave birth to beautiful Gizmo soon after she arrived at Redwings!
Gizmo and Nooky have been featured in lots of local newspapers and even appeared on Anglia News! Gizmo was a little star and was very well-behaved in front of the camera - except for when she saw her very first puddle… She leapt over it with all four feet off the ground! She is a very playful character and loves nothing better than bombing around her paddock.
Prince Becomes Adoption Star!
We have some very exciting news! Do you remember handsome Prince from the front cover of the Spring edition of the Young Redwings magazine? Well, here’s some good news! He has become our most recent Adoption Superstar!
Prince is a Clydesdale crossed with a Shire. He arrived at Redwings with his friend Tom, who is a fellow Shire horse. They lived at a Nature Reserve where they used to pull a dray, but sadly Tom had to retire after developing some problems with his legs and his breathing. Prince came along to Redwings to keep Tom company.
Prince has spent two seasons at our Caldecott Visitor Centre, near Great Yarmouth, where he has been a massive hit with our visitors. He is just such a gorgeous gentle giant, with a huge personality to match, so we couldn’t resists making him a part of our Adoption Club!
