Meet the residents

TimothyHenryRebecca

Timothy

Timothy is a beautiful brown and white donkey foal who was born with us on 11 January 2008. Timothy’s mother Mary came to us on 9 January when we were involved in a large rescue from Amersham. We took in 21 horses, ponies and donkeys that day for veterinary care. This was an RSPCA-led case involving local Police and other charities including the ILPH and the Blue Cross. All organisations concerned worked as a team, and Redwings was pleased to involve 30 of its staff and eight horseboxes. Amongst the eight donkeys was one heavily pregnant jenny donkey (Mary) and nearly 24 hours after arriving back with us Mary gave birth to an adorable donkey foal. Timothy is doing well and is extremely cute and playful. He is a cheeky little chap and mum Mary is doing a good job. Isn’t he just gorgeous!

Henry

Henry is an 11 year old very handsome Black Cob who stands around 14.hh. He was rescued in 1996 as part of an RSPCA rescue from London. Also rescued with Henry was his best friend Finnegan, one of our beautiful adoption horses, and Splash another handsome boy.

Henry lives at our Ada Cole site in Essex along with Finnegan. He is a very lovable chap and is a favourite amongst our visitors and staff. He does however have a very cheeky side and he has been found sneaking out of his field when the staff have their backs turned and is often caught in the wrong field, usually the one with more grass in it! Henry loves being Finnegan’s best friend as it means he is surrounded by his best friend’s fans. This means lots of cuddles and lots of posing for his photo to be taken. Check out his moustache!

Want to adopt Henry’s friend Finnegan or another Redwings horse, pony, donkey or mule? It costs just £12.50 a year and is a great way to support the charity’s work, plus you get fab photos and updates from your chosen friend.

Rebecca

Rebecca is a six year old coloured Shetland who is a very small 9hh. She was one of 72 horses and ponies that Redwings rescued in 2004 from Lincolnshire. It is one of our biggest welfare rescues so far, the enormous herd were living on a large area of land and had been left to live like wild ponies. None of the ponies could be caught or handled and they received none of the care that horses and ponies need.

Rebecca was one of a group within the herd that was given names out of the bible, some of her friends are called Eve, Samuel and Moses.

When she was rescued she was completely unhandled and went to our centre that specializes in working with our more nervous ponies. Rebecca has learnt how to have a head collar on, be led around and other simple tasks. Her training is on going and she is now learning how to have her feet picked up. Rebecca is a kind pony with a lovely character, she is still very nervous but is doing well and improving every day.
