Monkey Puzzle
Gorgeous Monkey Puzzle was born at Redwings after his Mum was rescued from London. The RSPCA asked us to rescue a large group of ponies from a site in London, as they were not getting the care they needed. Nobody really knew who owned the ponies, so they were just running wild. Many of them had health problems, but had not been seen by a vet.
Monkey Puzzle has beautiful brown and white patches, and has very fluffy feathers on his legs - just like his Mum! His Mum is named Oak, and she has been re-homed under our Guardianship scheme. Sadly, Oak can never be ridden, but she lives a happy life as a companion pony!
Monkey Puzzle lives at the Ada Cole Rescue Centre, in Essex, which is open all year round! He lives with lots of young ponies who all love to run around and play all day, including young Austin who had to be hand-reared because his Mum could not feed him when he was born. Monkey Puzzle was named after a type of tree which comes from South America!
Glasgow
Glasgow is one of the most handsome donkeys you will ever meet. He lives at our Oxhill Rescue Centre in Warwickshire with lots of his donkey friends!
Glasgow came to Redwings with his friends Caroline, Poppet, Joseph and adoption donkey Denise, after their owner could no longer care for them. Sometimes, people think that looking after donkeys are like looking after small horses, but this is not true. Donkeys can be a lot of hard work and need lots of special care.
Glasgow is the best of friends with adoption donkey Felicity, who lives at Oxhill too! They are completely in love with each other and don’t like to be separated. Did you know that donkeys need their friends? If they are separated from their friends, they can become very sad and can actually make themselves ill.
Boo
You might have heard about Boo before, as he is quite a famous Redwings resident!
Poor Boo has had a very traumatic life. He had cancer in his eye a few years ago, which meant that it had to be removed. But even worse still, somebody shot poor Boo in his other eye with an airgun, which left him completely blind.
Looking after a blind horse is very complicated, and some horses do not take to it very well. Luckily, Boo was very calm and coped very well with losing his sight. His owner decided he would be best off living here at Redwings, as we have many horses that have problems with their sight. Boo is always twitching his ears as he is always listening to everything!
